Two-component adhesives consist of resin and hardener. The two components are mixed and cured in a particular proportion to obtain the effect of bonding. These two components can be cured at room temperature. Therefore, it is necessary to control the mixing ratio of the two components to achieve the best mixing time, and prevent curing too fast or too slowly.
There are four types of common resins:
1. Epoxy resin
Two-component epoxy adhesives bond metals, plastics, fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP), glass, and some rubbers.
2. Methyl methacrylate
Classic applications are the automotive industry and rail vehicle manufacturing.
3. Silicone adhesive
Two-component siloxanes are commonly used in production line assembly, for example in the electronics and electrical industry as well as in the production of household appliances, in the automotive industry, and in window manufacturing.
4. Polyurethane
For bonding materials with different flexibilities or different coefficients of thermal expansion, including glass to metal, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) to metal, and aluminum to steel.
What is the mixing ratio?
The mix ratio of the two-part adhesive is used to determine the amount of resin and hardener needed to achieve resin properties.
What are the mixing methods?
1. Manual mixing
First, determine the desired curing time, and secondly determine the mixing ratio. It should be noted that if the mixing ratio is 10:1, it is necessary to confirm whether it is a mass ratio or a volume ratio, otherwise, the desired mixing effect may not be achieved. Therefore, the best choice for manual mixing is an adhesive with a mixing ratio of 1:1.
2. Metering, mixing and dispensing system
If the amount of adhesive applied is small or the gluing area is limited, you can choose a manual dispensing gun with dual cartridges and mixing nozzles; in another case, you can choose an automatic dispensing system for a large amount of adhesive. Both of these methods need to be used with mixing nozzles, which can be divided into static mixing nozzles and dynamic mixing nozzles. The resin and hardener flow through the mixing nozzle and are cut by the mixing elements inside the mixing nozzle without manual agitation for optimal mixing.
No matter which mixing method is chosen, it should be determined according to the actual application scenario. If you want to select a mixing nozzle, Btektechshop can provide various types of mixing nozzles to meet different needs.
