How to Glue Wood with Two-Part Epoxy

Advantages of two-part epoxy

Two-part epoxy resins are known for their high-performance strength and durability. The excellent bonding properties of epoxy resin and the combination of curing agents make it widely used in the wood processing industry, mainly as a sealant or filler, its waterproof seal makes it easy to clean. After the glue is fully cured, it can be polished or drilled, which is ideal for wooden tables or furniture.

Application tips of epoxy on wood

First, clean and dry the surface to be bonded. For wooden boards, it is usually necessary to use sandblasting, electric grinding wheels, wire brushes, or coarse sandpaper to polish, and then clean with detergents to avoid oil stains and other stains on the wood surface and improve adhesion.

Secondly, it is necessary to match the two-component epoxy resin. In order to make the mixing of AB epoxy resin more uniform and improve the mixing efficiency, the glue gun is usually used with the cartridge and the static mixing nozzle. First load the A-component epoxy into one of the cartridges and the B-component curing agent into the other cartridge, then install it on the glue gun, connecting the static mixer. This method avoids the possibility that the glue will quickly dry and solidify if it is not used in time after manually mixing the glue, and also avoids the possibility of reducing the strength of the glue caused by air bubbles caused by manual stirring.

Finally, the mixed two-component epoxy resin is painted on the wood surface. Quickly wipe off excess epoxy with a clean cloth, cured epoxy can be carefully scraped with a knife. It should be noted that when the wood is bonded by epoxy resin, it must wait 24 hours.

After the two-part epoxy resin is completely solidified, the wood not only sticks firmly, but also can have moisture-proof, waterproof, oil prevention, dust prevention, and high-temperature resistance effect.
